SKY Sotheby’s International Realty has purchased the newly released BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES 4.0), becoming the first local real estate firm to secure this expanded voice and data wireless capability. The BES 4.0 is an upgraded version of the firm ’s existing Enterprise Server software.
Developed by Research in Motion of Waterloo, Ontario, BlackBerrys are handheld devices designed to keep mobile professionals connected while they are in the field. BlackBerrys provide phone services, e-mail, text-messaging, browser and organizer applications in a single, integrated handheld device. Powerful real estate features include property search software developed by Retrieval Dynamics, a Sarasota-based company, enabling sales associates to access the Multiple Listing Service anytime, anywhere.
SKY was the first local real estate firm to issue BlackBerry handheld devices to all its sales associates. The new BES server provides increased capability to the existing BlackBerry platform, including a more powerful web browser for viewing image-rich sites and animation, greater file storage capability, and wireless e-mail reconciliation with the desktop. It allows multiple BlackBerrys to be set up without having to individually install the software on each user’s desktop, and allows software updates to be sent simultaneously to each user’s device. Scheduling is facilitated with automatic synchronization from an associate’s Outlook calendar to the BlackBerry calendar, and global address lookup enables an associate to retrieve information from anyone’s database on the network.
