SKY Sotheby’s International Realty, the Sarasota-based luxury real estate brokerage firm, today announced that Marc Rasmussen and Philip Smith have joined the company. Both specialize in residential properties and will work out of the downtown Sarasota office at 1237 Gulfstream Avenue.

Rasmussen has been selling real estate in Sarasota since 2000; however he’s been involved in the industry much longer. Before earning his license he worked in the finance industry as a commodities broker and mortgage lender. It was during this time that he got his first taste of the real estate profession. Once he became a Realtor, he created a comprehensive Web site on the local real estate industry, which helped generate a large majority of his business. This experience, combined with his industry insight, has helped Rasmussen build a loyal customer base.

Prior to joining SKY Sotheby’s International Realty, he worked for RE/MAX Properties where he became a member of the Platinum Club, which recognizes the company’s top-producing agents. A resident of Sarasota since 1994, Rasmussen grew up in Orlando and graduated with high honors from the University of Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance.
Smith, originally from South Africa, was a professional soccer player for five years before immigrating to Sarasota in 1999. He became a licensed Realtor in 2003 and worked for companies such as Michael Saunders & Company and RE/MAX Properties. During his first year in business, he achieved accolades such as becoming a member of RE/MAX Properties’100% Club for having sales productivity more than double the industry average. Prior to becoming a Realtor, Smith owned a successful printing business in South Africa that specialized in the design of medical documentation systems for hospitals and doctors.
