Sky Sotheby’s International Realty Sponsors Art Exhibit Benefiting The Crowley Museum

As part of its commitment to support the local community, Sarasota-based luxury real estate brokerage firm SKY Sotheby’s International Realty is sponsoring the upcoming art exhibit Beneath the Surface: New Work by Nikitas Kavoukles, benefiting The Crowley Museum and Nature Center. The exhibit runs from February 16 to March 3, 2007 and will be hosted by the JABU Center, located at 1915 Ivanhoe Street. Exhibit hours are Tuesday through Friday, noon to 6 p.m.; Saturday/Sunday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Crowley Museum and Nature Center, a non-profit organization, is in the process of developing exciting new programs and exhibits. Some of these endeavors include documenting the collection at the Pioneer Museum and furnishing the 1889 Tatum House, as well as maintaining its numerous hiking trails and educational programs.

“The Crowley Museum and Nature Center is rich in Sarasota history and is one of the area’s frequented tourist attractions,” says Chad Roffers, President, SKY Sotheby’s International Realty. “Through our participation with this event, we are honored to help this organization reach its goal of growing its membership base and gaining funding to propel this museum to the next level.”

The Beneath the Surface series of limited edition, archival pigment prints features rich, painterly images that are based on photographs of the Crowley and Myakka environs by local artist Nikitas Kavoukles. Kavoukles applies his hand as a classically trained painter to evoke the fine art potential of twenty-first century digital media. His work has been described as “absorbing, delicate, transformative landscapes that are as rich and insightful as dreams.” As part of the fundraising effort, Kavoukles will donate 15% of the proceeds from the exhibit to the Crowley.

“My work is both guided by nature and is a response to it,” says Kavoukles. “I work with the subtle effects of color and form to evoke a response in the viewer…it is an exploration of new possibilities.”

A pre-opening benefit for the Crowley Museum will be held on Thursday, February 15, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets to the benefit are $55 per person; $95 per couple, and are fully tax deductible. To reserve tickets, please call: 941-322-1000. An opening artist’s reception, free to the public, will be held on Friday, February 16, from 6 to 9 p.m.
